I Like My Politics, and Religion Shaken, Not Stirred, Why Not?

Never discuss politics or religion! Can someone tell me why? Do these topics bring out the very worst in people? If so why?

Here is my issue today. I find it quite annoying the old adage about discussing politics and religion. These are one of the few things that intertwine us as human beings. Truth is we don’t all live the same reality and I feel we can all benefit from each other’s perspective. Is this not possible with a “civilized” nation such as ours?  I don’t want to single out a specific religion, because just like people all religions have extremes, or extremist. My point is only that we should not be afraid of debate that which allows us to think.

Thinking for some people is crossing the line when it comes to religion. To suggest that one question their own beliefs outside of a temple is a sure fire way to upset someone. Religion affects our everyday way of life, including the way we lead our lives. This includes politics. We just came out of an 8 year presidency with someone who talks to God. That’s not a bad thing, but he did start a War as well. I would like to challenge the notion that politics and religion are off the table when it comes to debate. What else are we going to talk about that has just as much meaning and purpose. Chris Brown and Rihanna? Obama’s First 100 Days? What went wrong on American Idol?
